TravBuddy, an independent online travel community, has shared that over 5,000 members have met in real life.
travbuddy.com is a free website that makes it possible to find travel buddies online.
Eric Bjorndahl, CEO, TravBuddy said, "Young, Internet-savvy travelers are bypassing traditional guidebooks and tour groups to get information directly from the source: locals and fellow travelers."
Members can search over 1.5 million potential travel buddies by interest, age, gender, destination and travel dates. They can also send personal messages to locals to get first-hand travel advice about specific destinations.
The site shared that after meeting up in real life, travelers can leave "vouches" for other members and over 5,000 vouches have been written by TravBuddy members.
