A senior US Airways Group executive is reportedly seeking assurances from ITA Software following its recent takeover by Google.
According to a report filed by The Wall Street Journal, Scott Kirby, US Airways president, said that the airline had “no explicit concerns” about the deal yet, but wanted to “maintain the same business relationship”. Kirby said on a call with analysts that the airline was still talking to ITA and was seeking unspecified assurances over their future business.
Meanwhile, Continental’s executive vice-president and chief marketing officer, Jim Compton said, “We are actually an early adopter of the ITA software and have a really good relationship and a strong business partnership with ITA. They have a really good shopping solution, that we use on continental.com and it’s worked very well for us, as we have seen some terrific penetration on continental.com in terms of tickets and the growth in terms of our percent of revenue that was falling on continental.com and that shopping solution is a low fare search engine that has served us well.”
“That being said, there are alternatives to that shopping solution in the market place, both internally and externally,” Compton said. He made these comments during the airline’s Q2 2010 Earnings Call (transcript on Seeking Alpha).
