Google has extended Hotel Finder’s functionality with a new way to search: ‘Hotels by Travel Time’.
According to the company, now if users go to Hotel Finder and enter [for example, Empire State Building] in the search box, they will see the hotels that they can get to by public transport within 20 minutes.
The areas users can easily reach from their point of interest are spotlighted on the map.

“If 20 minutes is too long to travel or you like to get around on foot, you can easily change the travel time or your mode of transport (e.g., walking, transit). The map will update automatically to show a new spotlighted area and the nearby hotels. You can also drag the red pin to find hotels near other places you might like to visit,” shared Konrad Gianno, Software Engineer on a company’s blog.
This feature is not only for tourists. It is also useful for those who might be travelling on business and intend to make sure they get to a particular office or a conference centre.
Google clarified that Hotel Finder and `Hotels by travel time’ are experimental and filtering by transit time is only available in cities where it has partnered with local transit agencies to integrate their data into Google Maps.
IN-DEPTH: It’s absolutely essential for businesses to evaluate their current mobile experience for consumers conducting their travel related queries on mobile devices and to invest in improvements before being left behind. 2012 will certainly be yet another record-breaking year for mobile, says Mike Giannotti, Industry Manager, UK Travel, Google.
A study in the US has indicated that customer satisfaction with online travel remains flat at 78, consistent with the category’s all-time high set last year.
