Privately owned hotel group Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, which has a portfolio of more than 40 4-and 5-star properties throughout the UK, has launched its new website. The company says it is now the first UK hotel group to incorporate ‘responsive design’ into its website.

This key feature ensures visitors view the same beautifully crafted pages, regardless of the platform used (laptop, tablet or smartphone) to browse for information.

The hotel group is now offering its business, conference and leisure customers a streamlined, easily navigable ‘browse to book’ consumer journey.

Ruaridh Macdonald, sales and marketing director of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, said the new website seamlessly blends modern page design with extremely user-friendly functionality.

“As an organisation that priorities the needs of our discerning business, conference and leisure guests, it is very important for us to ensure the website reflects their needs,” said Macdonald. “Consequently, throughout the entire build process, we have extensively consulted with our customers.”

According to the company, browsers can view at a glance and quickly book the very latest offers that are available across the group. This removes the frustration many browsers in the hotel and travel sector feel when they are aware of offers but can’t readily identify how to access and book available dates, added an official release.

Additional features of the website include a simple three-step, ‘look to book’ reservation process, eye-catching images and a simple automatic calculator function that allows the user to see at a glance how much a request for specific extras will add to the cost of a reservation.

The site has been developed by digital agency Equator.

John McLeish, managing director of Equator, said, “… with the adoption of responsive design techniques the site will respond to the user’s behaviour and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation.”
