Air France is now extending its mobile boarding pass service to almost all short and medium-haul flights, except on flights to the UK.

The initiative is being taken after having tested it for six months on the Paris-Amsterdam-Paris route and following its initial launch in February on La Navette flights.

The mobile boarding pass takes the form of an SMS, MMS or e-mail and contains all the same information as on a traditional boarding card (passenger’s name, boarding time, boarding gate, departure time, seat number and travel class).

In another development, Air France has a world first with smartboarding and starting Tuesday 17 March, will test automatic boarding.

This personal card uses three types of the latest technology, namely biometrics, RFID and thermal printing (up to 500 reprints possible). Passengers holding this card will be able to board as they wish and when they want.
