Location-based service Foursquare recently signed partnerships with daily deal providers LivingSocial, Gilt City, zozi, BuyWithMe and AT&T.

According to a report filed by washingtonpost.com, with these deals, Foursquare is attempting to solve two problems: liquidity in deals and its own lack of a revenue model.

The company shared the highlights of its new pacts on its blog:

We help you discover the deals that are right for you

We now run all Specials through our personalised Explore tab. As a result, you only see Specials that are right for you, and you also see why they’re right for you (for instance, if two of your friends have been there).

A totally seamless purchase experience

If you’re walking around and see a Special you like, a couple taps in your app and you’ll be able to buy it, all without leaving the foursquare application. And if you find a good Special while browsing on foursquare.com, you can buy it there, too.

It’s available on BlackBerry, Android, and iPhone, and in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Mobile shopping behaviour

It is being highlighted that services like Facebook Places and foursquare are not the only location-based tools consumers want.

In Q1 2011, JiWire found that nearly half the users of its hotspots would be interested in checking in, up from 27 percent just the previous quarter. Services that would help them find store locations or other points of interest were even more popular, and interest had grown. Mobile Wi-Fi users had also increased their appetites for location-aware reviews, ways to connect with others and tools to check product inventory nearby. Overall, the proportion of respondents not interested in any kind of location-based services dropped by nearly half, from 22 percent to 12 percent.
