Kayak.com launches three tools

Published: 19 Nov 2008

Kayak.com has launched three tools including the industry's first search result collaboration feature for real-time sharing of air, hotel, rental car and cruise searches.

The site has also added two tools to the Kayak Buzz Family with the launch of Buzz Calendar and Kayak Insight.

"Kayak.com has introduced the first real-time sharing of results, so couples or colleagues can choose flights together, even if travelers are in different parts of town or even the world," Paul English, co-founder and CTO of Kayak.com said.

The Kayak Collaboration Engine allows users to look at and modify possible flight or hotel options in real-time.

"This process is much faster and efficient than describing what each person sees on their screen over the phone. Or worse, waiting until you're in front of the same computer to make a decision only to find the price has significantly increased," said English.

Kayak.com has also combined Kayak Buzz and Flexible Search to create the Buzz Calendar which offers a snapshot of pricing over a month without waiting for a search. Once the user inputs their destination airport and travel dates on the Kayak.com homepage, the Buzz Calendar instantly appears, offering a snapshot of pricing for the calendar month specified. Each day of the month displays the best price found by other Kayak.com users over the past 48 hours, with the most affordable dates of departure highlighted. Consumers can use the drop-down menu to easily view prices for additional months.

"It's not all gloom and doom for airfare as business and leisure travelers with flexibility over trip dates can still snag a bargain," said Keith Melnick, EVP of corporate development at Kayak.com. "The Buzz Calendar is also the fastest way on the Web for lookers, not ready to be bookers, to quickly check departure prices, without waiting for a search."

The Buzz Calendar is available on SideStep.com and globally on all 11 Kayak.com sites.

The company shared that Kayak Insight is available from the homepage of the US and UK sites. The tool displays real-time searches that other Kayak.com users are requesting, along with the cheapest fare available. As a search is performed, a text box appears with itinerary details and price. This new Google mash-up provides a "fly-on-the-wall" look at the best deals Kayakers are finding from the user's home airport.
