Travelport GDS to help agents manage checked baggage

Travelport GDS has created a new, free-of-charge tool designed to help agents manage checked baggage on Flybe flights booked via its Galileo GDS.
The solution, developed specifically in response to feedback from agents, has been designed to ease the process of managing customers' checked baggage requirements.
Galileo-connected agencies in the UK will now be able to book and pay for their customers' checked baggage on Flybe flights within the GDS environment.
Under its current policy, Exeter-based Flybe asks agents to prepay for luggage checked into the hold. This has meant travel consultants either had to use multiple manual steps on the GDS or switch on to the Flybe website to make the payment separately.
This innovation streamlines the booking process by using the pre-filled passenger data for baggage payments and does away with the hassle of credit card reconciliations since all charges are settled through BSP, said Travelport GDS general manager UK and Ireland Patrick Lukan.
The script prompts agents through the booking process and is fully integrated into both the Galileo Focalpoint and Viewpoint display. Checked baggage is seamlessly integrated into each customer's Viewtrip itinerary. As an additional benefit, the system will allow agencies to add a service fee for baggage management.
