Desiya strengthens its distribution network by adding 2500 agents

Published: 02 Apr 2008

India's top online hotel consolidator Desiya.com has added 2500 travel agents in a short span of nine months.

Desiya.com, which was acquired by TravelGuru.com late last year, started focusing on travel agents only in July 2007. Overall, in India, the company works with 2200 travel agents.

Apart from enabling hotel partners to develop Internet-ready inventory management tools, Desiya is also empowering travel agents to benefit from the wide scale and deals available from the combined hotel network.

Currently, the Gurgaon-based company works with 280 websites, too. "We have formed relationship with 3500 hotels in India. We have offices in four cities – New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata – to manage supplier relationship (as part of combined hotel contracting team for both Travelguru and Desiya's B2B business)," Amit Taneja, Founder & CEO of Desiya told EyeforTravel.com's Ritesh Gupta.

Desiya is only focusing on hotel inventory as of now. The strategic alliance with TravelGuru.com came after 18 months of association between the two companies. The two companies had stated that "Desiya's strong supplier relations and experience compliment Travelguru's own substantial market reach, vast consumer base and online resources."

Apart from merging hotel contracting teams, Desiya's information technology department also merged with TravelGuru.com. The technology for user interface, bookings, transactions processing etc all have been developed in-house by Desiya.
