Well, good move by Aer Lingus. A mistake was made in the distinct favor of some customers and it is right to honor these lower priced tickets. It was a marketing error to at first reject the purchases made at lower fares, then reverse that position to say that after all those purchases will be honored.
Despite the temporary confusion, I would say that Aer Lingus has reaped more than £790,000 in goodwill and publicity.
Quick observation from an Aer Lingus customer: If you are flying from Europe to North America, or North America to Europe, and you are not sure when you will be returning, you should check the fares on Aer Lingus. To my knowledge, Aer Lingus is the only trans-Atlantic airline that sells one-way tickets, or tickets with an open-ended return.
