Jetstar ties up with Mobile Travel Technologies, goes mobile

Published: 07 Jul 2008

Mobile Travel Technologies Ltd. (MTT) has implemented a range of mobile web services for Australia and Asia Pacific low-cost airline Jetstar (Qantas Group).

At launch, the site makes available flight schedules, fares, plus destination and airport information for all mobile phone users whilst they are away from their PC or on the move. The site and services can be viewed using jetstar.com on a mobile device or on a PC.

Jetstar Mobile is accessible from over 3,000 mobile devices from iPhone and PDAs down to standard feature phones.

In another development, MTT recently appointed Dan Egan as Senior Development Manager. Egan joins from Sabre and has previously worked with MTT Executive Directors at Gradient Solutions, which was acquired by Sabre in 2000.

Mobile is growing fast in Europe and the US as well as in Asia Pacific. From the mobile travel services MTT has already developed for travel clients in Europe, the US as well as in Asia Pacific, we are already seeing up to 10% of the number of unique users on the regular web site accessing the site on mobile. In the US, large carriers have over 100,000 unique accesses per month, a trend which is growing by up to 20% per month. Dawn Cremin, Head of Marketing, Mobile Travel Technologies

Mobile is a logical application for the travel and tourism industries. But, I have to wonder why mobile appears to be growing in the Asia-Pacific area, but not in Europe and North America. Are there security issues involved here?
