Ryanair has made a series of changes to its baggage policies and charges, increasing the fees it charges to check in bags and sporting equipment from October 1 by up to 50 percent.

The airline has decided to increase the fee for checking in a bag to £15 from £10 now if booked in advance online and to £30 from £20 now if you pay at the airport. Changes will come into effect for all new bookings from October onwards.

The airline is also changing its baggage policy to allow passengers to take a second bag weighing up to 15kg on payment of an additional fee. The second bag will be charged at £35 if booked on the Internet and £70 at the airport.

According to Ryanair, these changes reflect the fact that Ryanair’s average fares have fallen by 20 percent this year, from €40 to €32 – resulting in Ryanair’s 67 million passengers saving over €530million per annum.

Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said over 70 percent of Ryanair passengers will be totally unaffected by these changes as they already travel with just one carry on bag, which is free of charge.

nowfly.co.uk recently came up with a baggage allowance table, highlighting policies and fees.
