Travelzest acquires Canadian luxury cruise retailer for £6.5 million

The consideration comprises £5.75 million in cash (CAD 11.5 million) and the issue of 682,000 shares in Travelzest at a price of 110p. In addition, Mary Jean Tully will become entitled to a further payment of up to £750,000 (CAD 1.5 million) payable in shares in Travelzest plc subject to the achievement of targets in the business for the 12 month period to 30 April 2009.

The two companies each will hold 50% of the JV, TUI Cruises, which is subject to regulatory and board approvals, TUI said in a statement. The venture will begin operating in early 2009, initially with one renovated ship, and will later add two newly built vessels to its fleet in 2011 and 2012.

TUI Cruises will be based in Hamburg, Germany, and industry executive Richard Vogel is slated to become its CEO, reported AP.

"By collaborating with Royal Caribbean, we gain access to a very profitable growth market," TUI Chief Executive Michael Frenzel said.

However, a new noise-free, high-speed camera has been developed at the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge which at last makes very high resolution imaging in the visible possible.
