easyJet predicts 45 percent drop in profit

The news came as the company shared that it expects annual pretax profits to fall by as much as 45 percent. Its full year pre-tax profit would fall to a worse than expected £110-120m sterling, while it was cutting capacity for this winter. Analysts had been expecting a drop to around £138m for the year to September. The company had reported a pre-tax profit of £191m last year.

ebookers re-launches its site in Belgium

The Belgian site is the first on Orbitz Worldwide's global platform where users can search for travel in a non-English language.

Like past platform migrations in the UK and Ireland, the re-launch of ebookers' new Belgian website is expected to triple the number of hotels accessible to customers.

Expedia to acquire Venere.com

The transaction will result in addition of more than 10,000 incremental hotel properties in Europe, the Middle East and Africa to online travel agency Expedia, Inc.'s global hotel offering.

Venere.com has established relationships with approximately 29,000 hotels and bed and breakfast properties throughout Europe and the US. It is currently associated with 26,000 hotels in Europe and is adding hotel properties at a rate of more than 1,000 per month.

Aer Arann seeks new MD

Cullen recently completed his two-year contract and has agreed to continue as Managing Director with Aer Arann until the end of the year.

The airline plans to have MD by October.

Since 2006, Aer Arann has restructured the organisation with the introduction of new aircraft into the fleet, while growing the network and customer base. The airline has also opened a new Head Office in Dublin, and a new hangar facility in Galway.

Ryanair increases Aer Lingus stake

Europe's biggest low-cost airline bought an additional 3.5 million shares in Aer Lingus, bringing its total holdings in Ireland's former flag carrier to 159,231,025 shares.

According to media, developer Liam Carroll is believed to have sold more than 31 million shares in Aer Lingus at an estimated loss of €20m. Carroll is believed to have sold the shares - snapped up by Ryanair - at €1.15 each having earlier this year buying them at almost €2m. Stockbrokers have described the deal as a `fire sale;. It would have yielded Carroll €40.25m, according to reports.

Danish consumer agency names airline websites "for rip-off consumer price schemes"

As per the information available, online travel sites run in Denmark by Ryanair, Air Berlin, Air Baltic, SkyEurope, Aer Lingus, Brussels Airlines and Seat24 were singled out for violating European consumer law.

Of the 13 airlines carriers and ticket selling sites checked in Denmark in September last year, five have corrected the information stated on their websites and one carrier no longer operates air services to Denmark, the Consumer Agency said in a statement.

British Airways to acquire French Airline L'Avion

The value of the acquisition is Euro 68 million, which covers the purchase of the airline and Euro 33 million of cash in its business.

Completion of the deal is conditional on clearance from the relevant regulatory authorities.

The combined airline will operate up to three daily flights between Paris Orly and the New York area using Boeing 757 aircraft.
