Amadeus sets up new team for Americas

To lead the effort, Amadeus has appointed 20-year IBM veteran, Dwayne Ingram, as Executive Vice President for the Amadeus Multinational Customer Group serving the Americas.

Based out of Amadeus' Chicago center, Ingram will be responsible for leading sales, account management and travel technology efforts in tandem with the company's existing local commercial organisations.

Travelport GDS signs new agreement with TravelSky

Under the terms of the agreement, TravelSky will implement Travelport's Reservation Sales Solution (RSS) allowing its travel agents to seamlessly access, make reservations and issue e-tickets on a wide range of global airlines in real-time via Travelport's Galileo GDS.

Sabre to overhaul hotel rate negotiation process

In announcing the new service, Sabre also announced the acquisition of BidStork, which offers a web-based application that creates, delivers and manages hotel requests for proposals (RFPs).

Hotels can now manage Expedia bookings through Amadeus PMS

The solution allows hotels to sell their rooms on Expedia direct from their Amadeus PMS.

Amadeus PMS now provides hotels with a single point from which they can manage their rates, availability and inventory on Expedia. This allows them to easily adjust room availability and pricing according to demand, and enables the use of dynamic pricing to optimise rate management and occupancy levels.

Pegasus signs deal with Travelport to boost agencies' hotel commissions

Initially planned for the EMEA and APAC regions, the agreement will enable Galileo agents to more easily reconcile hotel bookings and significantly improve tracking and collection of hotel commissions.

The agreement was reached to help agents boost earnings from hotel commissions at a time of reduced commissions in other travel segments.

Europcar and Sabre join hands for new car rental electronic voucher

According to a release, similar to electronic ticketing for airlines, the 'Sabre Car eVoucher' service represents a quick and easy payment solution which facilitates invoicing and account management for corporate customers and travel professionals. It is also in line with Europcar's own "paperless programme" and with a travel industry trend to reduce the amount of paper in travel documents.

Sabre Car eVoucher simplifies the process at the rental counter, since the renter just needs to present his or her driver's licence.

Travelport GDS offers agents improved online security

Travel agents subscribing to the Galileo GDS now have the opportunity to increase their online security with the company's new Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connectivity option, designed to introduce new levels of security for online transactions.

The new connection, which removes the limitations caused by leased line technology, enables agents to access the Galileo host and complete secure internet transactions through an encrypted link between the Galileo Web server and an agency's desktop.

Amadeus acquires rail IT company, continues its diversification

The company termed the acquisition as a "major milestone in Amadeus' strategy to expand its range of technology solutions for its customers in the travel industry."

The acquisition adds a fully-integrated inventory, pricing, reservation and distribution system, enabling domestic and international distribution, alongside other forms of transport – such as air or car – to Amadeus' suite of solutions for rail companies.

And that's where the GDS shines, according to Hans Belle, Vice President, Sabre Travel Network, Asia Pacific.

Belle, a speaker during EyeforTravel's Travel Distribution Summit Asia 2008 conference held in Singapore earlier this year, said LCCs are recognising the benefits of GDS participation by signing up.

Travelport GDS eyes expansion in the Middle East

It will also establish a direct support network for travel agents in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Galileo is currently distributed in the region by the national airlines of Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, UAE and Yemen. Galileo's contract with the Arabi Group will expire at the end of 2008 and Travelport has taken the opportunity to review its existing distribution arrangements across the region.
