New Facebook app to make rewards social

As companies across the globe focus on letting their customer loyalty programme members engage with points in new ways, Citi has announced the first Facebook application from a loyalty programme that is both a rewarding and social experience.

The new Facebook app, the Citi ThankYou Point Sharing App, makes it easy for ThankYou Rewards members who are Facebook friends to pool their points together, and use their points’ collective value towards a shared goal or reward.

As per the information available, ThankYou members on Facebook can combine their points to make a charitable donation, or choose from rewards on www.thankyou.com. One of the options for members is related to redeeming for flights, hotels, cars, travel packages and activities. The company says the online travel booking tool available on the site offers users flexibility when redeeming their points for travel.

Ralph Andretta, head of Co Brands and Loyalty at Citi Cards, said, “With the new ability to pool points together through their social networks, ThankYou members can rally their friends towards a bigger reward -- whether they are interested in combining points to book a weekend getaway or supporting a common cause.”

Members can select a specific amount of ThankYou points they would like to contribute to the pool. They can invite any number of Facebook friends who are ThankYou members to join the pool. All participants in a point pool must have the Facebook app linked to their ThankYou account.

Late last month JetBlue Airways, too, came up with an interesting initiative. The airline shared that in addition to trading, buying, and gifting points, customers now have two more ways to benefit from their TrueBlue membership: the ability to transfer points and create gift registries to receive points for that special event. With the Transfer add-on, TrueBlue members can help friends and family members reach their reward goals faster by seamlessly transferring points between one another. The airline’s loyalty programme members can now also create a TrueBlue Gift Registry and receive TrueBlue points as a gift for a honeymoon, a graduation, a vacation or any occasion.
