Online travel company Opodo has selected 24/7 Real Media to encourage advertisers to its UK website.

This is for the first time the company will accept advertising, according to local media.

Shirlene Chandrapal, sales and distribution manager at Opodo UK, reportedly said: "We wanted to attract the right type of advertiser to make the most of Opodo's tech-savvy, affluent, ABC1 audience."

24/7 was chosen because of its "experience in bringing high-brand sites to market".

According to mad.co.uk, the development continues Opodo's strategy to maximise advertising opportunities on its site and increase revenues without disrupting the service. As per the information available, advertisers tied up with include mobile phone network Orange.

Earlier this year Opodo picked marketing consultancy Promise to handle its £3 million global brand positioning following a five-way pitch, according to mad.co.uk. The travel company is looking to create an international brand across all its markets and reposition itself to take on Ebookers and Travelocity, the report added.

As per Netimperative.com report, the deal will see Opodo using 24/7 Real Media's ad serving technology, Open AdStream, to automate the delivery of adverts on the site and keep track of click-throughs and conversion rates for improved reporting and analysis. Richard Foster, commercial director at 24/7 Real Media, said in the same report, "Opodo is offering a unique opportunity for advertisers to reach a previously untapped audience. 24/7's experience of the travel marketplace coupled with our technology offering means we can offer a strong proposition and generate results and revenue for both the site and potential advertisers."
