Stressing on the importance of vertical industry specialisation, Cheapflights.co.uk's David Soskin acknowledges that vertical search databases are complementary to broad-based search engines.

Soskin, chief executive officer of travel price search and comparison website
Cheapflights.co.uk, compared the broad-based search engines such as Google or
Yahoo, which encompass a huge breadth of information, to specialised search
tools which focus on one particular sector during a conference in New York
recently. According to him, being specialised, such sites often offer a better
consumer experience. The companies that advertise on these search engines reach
a focused audience.

Thus the specialised sites can provide more qualified leads than standard
search engines. The advertisers on vertical sites are gaining exposure to
would-be buyers who are much closer in time to a purchase decision.
