“If we don’t think mobile first we will lose,” Ross Matthews, the chief marketing officer of Icelolly.com told delegates at EyeforTravel Europe last month.
The company claims to be the UK’s fastest growing metasearch, outperforming Kayak, CheapFlights and Holiday Pirates in the year to April 2018.
According to Matthews, the firm currently has a presence in the UK but handles 40 million search queries annually, and already has around a million users in its database.
Clearly, the UK is not a bad market to be running a travel business. A Comscore report published in May 2018 that tracks multiplatform data from five European countries finds that 94% of the UK’s digital population visited travel sites in January 2018. The next country most excited about online travel is Spain (86%), lagged somewhat by Italy (69%), France (67%) and Germany (65%).
