Online travel company Orbitz Worldwide has appointed Chris Orton as its new chief marketing officer, effective immediately.

Barney Harford, president & CEO, Orbitz Worldwide, said Orton “is an absolute leader in developing algorithmic approaches to online marketing and CRM.”

“We believe his deep experience of applying massive data sets to marketing opportunities will make Orbitz a more effective and efficient marketing organisation,” Harford said.

For his part, Orton said that his focus would be on establishing Orbitz as “the most trusted travel brand in the world”, and “develop the company’s online marketing systems to be the most sophisticated in the industry”.

Prior to joining Orbitz, Orton was senior director of Internet marketing at eBay, responsible for the company’s paid search, shopping comparison, search engine optimisation, affiliates and display marketing channels.
