About.com ties up with Kayak.com

In what is being is termed as an unprecedented deal for Manhattan-based About.com, the online consumer information network has signed an agreement with Kayak.com, a comparison shopping website.

Kayak.com will serve as the premier booking partner, as per the information available. As per the multi-year agreement, Kayak.com will provide easy access to its travel search engine to visitors to the About.com travel and cities and towns channels. More than 22 million consumers visit About.com each month to access 23 content channels.

Visitors to About’s travel pages will find a box where they can enter basic information on a planned trip; they will then be connected to Kayak’s site. Links to Kayak will also be embedded in articles about destinations, says About.com’s senior vice president of content, Michael Daecher.

Daecher said the initiative was part of its plans to offer practical solutions to everyday problems. “Kayak.com is a perfect complement to our existing travel content, offering comprehensive access to flight information and other travel deals in addition to the insight and advice from our Travel Guides,” said Daecher.

Steve Hafner, Kayak's chief executive officer and co-founder, said About.com is a top 10 Web property, used by one out of every five people on the Internet. “Advertisers who use our patent-pending Kayak Network ( http://www.kayaknetwork.com ) will now benefit from even more qualified leads that we will enjoy from our agreement with About.com,” said Hafner.

Kayak.com, which was launched in February, scours more than 100 online travel sites and promises real-time prices for more than 551 airlines and 85,000 hotels.

Last month, Kayak.com had announced the launch of its patent-pending Kayak Network (www.kayaknetwork.com), termed as a revolutionary new paid search solution optimised for the travel industry by the company. Unlike traditional paid search solutions, which rely on keyword combinations, the Kayak Network allows travel advertisers to customize their marketing activities based on the actual search parameters from real-time consumer searches. These search parameters include city or city pairs, trip dates, length of stay, and specific airline or hotel brands.
