Triposo launches World Travel Guide app

Triposo, a start-up focused on building free, interactive travel guides for mobile devices, has launched its World Travel Guide app for iOS.

About the new app, the company stated that it brings complete and up to date travel information for any destination in the world, using a Google-like algorithm.

Jon Tirsen and Douwe Osinga, two ex-Googlers, unveiled their new mobile travel guide Triposo a couple of months ago.

“Triposo focusses on presenting the most relevant options for a traveller at any given moment in any destination. With the launch of the World Travel Guide on iOS Triposo delivers on that promise,” stated the company.

In the app users download destination guides for the countries or cities they will be visiting. They can then use the app offline. Each guide contains in depth information on what to see and what to do, where to eat and where to drink.

“It’s the only travel guide that works anywhere in the world,” said Osinga, CEO of the company.

“The reason we can build a travel guide for the whole world is because we use algorithms to make our guides. We get our content from great open sources like wikitravel and wikipedia. Our job is to rank that content and to distill a really good guide for travellers out of it. If you do that for one place, you can do it for anywhere,” said Tirsen,
Tech Lead.

The company uses the content that is freely available from seven different sources, including Wikitravel, Wikipedia, World66 and Openstreetmap.
